I attended a one-week conference and got loaded with tons of learnings and yes, additional pounds from sitting whole day on lectures standing up only for snacks, lunch and dinner (and yes, one week without run – suicidal really). Part of my take-home from the said event is the fact that there is now a huge gap between the academe and the needs of the corporate world, the gap in our education system,
Oh, I’m not actually going to share about the learnings I got there (I’m still in the process absorbing.) Just in time while listening (and zzzzz’ing) in one lecture, an email about the Karunungan 2010 arrived. Wow, that is just exactly what the speaker is talking about —– we need to do something to help bridge the gap in the Philippine education system. So, why don’t you read on to see how you can help….
Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) launches KaRUNungan 2010, which aims to help generate awareness and support for the continued resource and learning gaps in the Philippine education system. The funds it will raise through this campaign will be used to produce instructional shows in English, Science and Math, using “virtual” teachers on air. KCFI wishes to help the majority of elementary and high school students, who are still unable to attain adequate mastery of their lessons.
Through KaRUNungan 2010 and various running events, KCFI enjoins the growing Filipino community of runners to champion the cause of Philippine education, and give Filipino students their second wind that will help them reach the finish line. As KaRUNungan 2010’s theme says, “Every Learner, A Finisher.”
1. Pledge for Jaymie Pizarro, Coach Rio and Knowledge Channel Pres. Rina Lopez-Bautista and other Filipino personalities who will be running for KaRUNungan NYC 2010. Pledge $1 for every kilometer they finish. Visit http://www.thebullrunner.com for details.
Or, if you are running the NYC Marathon, you can ask your friend to do the same. Pledge $1 for every kilometer you run.
2. Join the 3k/5k/10K fun run on November 28
